photos...art within the ordinary

I have this tendency to think in images, to create momentary photos like an internal camera obscura. Sometimes, i am lucky enough to have an actual camera with me to capture some of these angles, colors, lines, textures and shapes that seem to catch my eye. Such was the case yesterday where the light of the beautiful sunset allowed me take some photos of seemingly innocuous things. Trying to capture the ordinary things in life in a new, interesting way is a challenge.

This challenge holds true within marketing as well as within photography. Without an interesting angle, a wall is just a wall...a marketing piece is just a marketing piece. There is the need to have a creative presentation of your product/service in order for it to stand apart from the ordinary.

We would love to help you create something unique.

photo shoot

Recently, we did a photo shoot with a long-time client, Wrap 'n Wear. With babies and models in abundance, it was a fun event that allowed us to capture some of the benefits of their product.

The goal of this shoot was to highlight the product as more of a fashionable item rather than just a "baby product". With that in mind we went to two locations, a high-end shopping center and a classic home. Each location gives a slightly different feel to the images but allows for the product to "fit" within the perceived environments and therefore give the association of a high-end product that is fashionable as well as functional.

Here are just a few examples of the photography below.

Park City Photos

Park City is an odd blend of environmental ideals, artistic expression, cliche rich within a ski-town atmosphere...and, of course, spectators like me to take in the views. enjoy.

The first snow

According to weather.com, it was 80 degrees here yesterday. The leaves haven’t changed color on any of my trees and yet we are getting the first snow of the season at my house as I am typing this (pic below to prove it). I may be wrong about this, but I could have sworn that there used to be some sort of time period between summer and winter.

But, when it comes down to it, that is just how we roll here in Utah. While other states might take the time for a break between outdoor activities, we go straight from summer hikes to backcountry skiing. We are always outdoors and on advil.

Live TV Spot

Wrap ‘n Wear, a baby carrier company and long-time Wold Creative client, was featured this morning on the Studio 5, a Utah-wide live TV show. The experience was fun for all involved and this was a great way to get the name out there to a larger Utah audience.

TIP: What the greater viewing audience might not know is that opportunities like this exist for just about any kind of business. If there is a TV/Radio show that deals with topics similar to your product/service, you, most likely, can pay a nominal fee to be on that show and thus have wide exposure within a market. Certainly, this is not for all companies, but it is another potential avenue of advertising on television without the huge fees that are normally associated with TV media buying.

A big welcome to Powder Mountain!

As avid skiers (though there is a snowboarder among us), we are very proud to welcome Powder Mountain to the Wold Creative team. Working with some web development, branding and marketing strategies for Powder Mountain, Wold Creative Group is assisting with the guidance of growth of the ski resort so that it grows appropriately while still appealing its current customer-base.

We are very excited to be assisting Powder Mountain with its web development and marketing. If we must also have meetings on the slopes periodically this winter, then that is just a sacrifice that we are willing to make.

Here are a couple of Powder Mountain pics from this summer.

Animal Fun

In spite of the fact that we did not have a stroller and 10 kids swarming around us, my wife and I decided to pay a visit to our local zoo. As I looked at the animals, I started to realize that the animal kingdom is instinctually hilarious. Whether it is an elephant incessantly using its nose to throw dirt on itself or if it is a giraffe working it in an urban fashion photo shoot, these animals were very entertaining. Enjoy.

Logan, UT

As a spur-of-the-moment thing, my wife and I decided to go up to Logan, UT for a night at a bed and breakfast. I can’t fully express to you how much of a reprieve one night away can be, but I highly recommend it…as well as Logan itself because it has a lot of character.

Powder Mountain

Did you know that Powder Mountain has more skiable terrain than any other ski resort in the US? This hidden gem of a ski resort is nestled in the mountains just up the road from Ogden, UT. With the charm of a small, home-grown mountain and the untracked terrain that all but ensures a powder-fill run, Powder Mountain might have to be my new ski resort of choice come this winter. Good mountain. Good people.

Public Service Announcement…according to the Powder Mountain signage, the avalanche danger is apparently “low” at present.

visuals, visuals, visuals

It must be important if it is repeated 3 times. You could have the best product or service in the world but if people cannot picture it or somehow identify with it then you will have one heck of a time trying to sell it. We are a culture that wants to the “kick the tires” before we drive it off the lot.

TIP: In other words, show off your product and/or service to the world in the best possible light. Like it has been stated before, this does not mean to show absolutely everything, it just means that in order to hook people in to actually see your product or service for what it is, you need to let give people a taste of it through good photography or other visuals.

Generally speaking, the first thing people notice in a marketing piece is a photo/design/colors/layout and the second thing they notice is what it actually says. Both components of the marketing piece are equally important but the visuals will either cause the viewer to pause long enough to read the text or, if ineffective, will cause the marketing to not be noticed at all.

Happy Pioneers Day!

When my wife and I first moved to Utah a couple of years ago we were planning on going out for a nice dinner for our anniversary. Little did we know that there would be parades and fireworks galore in our honor.

As it turns out, the fireworks and celebrations were actually for something called Pioneer Day. If you aren’t from Utah, you probably have no idea what this is. If you are from Utah, you probably wonder why this is bigger than the 4th and New Year’s Eve combined. Anyways, this is a Utah holiday celebrating the permanent settlement of Salt Lake City and people love to celebrate that in a big way around here. It actually is quite fun but my dog Winston isn’t a huge fan of the explosions above our house. Here are a couple of fireworks photos from my driveway.

st. john's

a beautiful church and school in California, St. John’s is growing and needs our help. Taking on a building project in California is quite a task, especially for a non-profit. In this case, Wold Creative Group is going be helping the church and the school to update their online presence to help communicate with a broader audience and help them to truly be the center point of the new community development that they are building in.

With the addition of an online donation section, not only will they be able to receive their normal donation from patrons but also additional support that will be specific to the building fund.

california

Whilst in California to meet with a client, I have the privilege of staying with some good friends in the Sacramento area. Their house is adjacent to a vast field that begs the passerby to stop and gaze in silence. This morning at 6:30am the clouds were like stained glass windows that the sun majestically illuminated in a warm glow.

BabyBam photo shoot

BabyBam Collection is a luxury baby apparel line that utilizes bamboo, yes bamboo, as its main ingredient within the fabric. Let me tell you, bamboo is one of the most versatile things out there if it can do well at being my hardwood floor as well as be one of the softest fabrics that I have ever felt. Oh, and did i mention that it is renewable and, hence, environmentally friendly. Is there anything that bamboo can't do?!? I'm just waiting for a bamboo-powered Prius to come on the market.

Happy 4th!

If you are working today, you shouldn't be. Get out there and enjoy what this day is all about...cooked meat over open flames, igniting small colorful fire hazards and celebrating that we don’t have a monarch.

Happy 4th!
