magazine cover - photography

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

We are proud to announce our first published magazine cover that we have had the opportunity to photograph. What started out as a photography project for Brach Design Architecture has turned into a great example of how decent photography can help exposure.

Brach Design Architecture recently completed the first Passive House in the western United States and is one of only a few in the world. For those that aren’t sure what that means, Passive House certification is hard to come by since it means that a structure was built to passively use things such as the elements (sun, angles, wind,…etc.) to passively warm and cool the house. It is roughly is about 75% more energy efficient than traditional contemporary architectural design. That is no easy task and that is why this Passive House is a big deal.

Chesapeake Home, a mid-Atlantic home magazine with a circulation of around 300,000, heard about this and wanted to write an article about it for their next publication. After submitting our photos to the magazine they informed me that, in spite of the fact that they have already shot their cover for that publication, they would like to use one of my photos instead.

What started out as a small article that may have been lost in the publication turned into the cover story with five additional photos and a two-page spread because of quality photography and open communication with the magazine.

new site launched

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

We are proud to say that we have launched another successful website for a client. After completing the re-branding for this church, we were then hired to re-do their website to match the new brand direction as well as give them an updated web presence. This included providing photography for the entire site as well as blogs that acted as a CMS (content management system) as well as a beautiful website to match their needs.

portland-seattle signage

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

I recently came back from a trip to Portland and Seattle. Being in the business that produces logos, brands and signage myself, i always tend to gravitate toward interesting signs. In particular, i love classically old signs. There is something about them that seems to transcend any particular style or time.

Because i was in Seattle, i had to take a picture of the first Starbucks in existence. Notice how their logo and brand colors have changed since this design.

Enjoy the photos that i took from Portland and Seattle but don’t steal them because that just isn’t nice.

architecture photo shoot 2

Monday, August 17th, 2009

We did another photo shoot for Brach Design Architecture. This house, located in the Avenues within Salt Lake City, is almost a passive house. That essentially means that this house is very sustainable and uses things like solar panels and automatic windows that create natural air circulation so there is no need for a traditional HVAC system. This is the future of architecture people. Not to mention, the architectural design itself that is incredible.

architecture photography

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

On rare occasion, the creative work done by our clients stands alone without any need to design something ourselves. Such is the case with Brach Design Architecture. With modern, clean design that creatively uses space, line and flow to perfection within their architecture, all we have to do it let it shine by showing it for what it is.

One of the things that impresses us about them is their commitment to good design but also to the environment. Being the only Passive House Design Consultant in Utah, they take architecture to a new level of utilizing the sun, airflow and passive elements to create a house that will save the environment as well as money through time.

Wold Creative Group has been capturing the recent projects that have been designed by Brach Design Architecture. Here are a few images from our recent photography of a house located at the fun district of 9th and 9th. Click here to learn more about Brach Design Architecture

salt lake photography site

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Michael Tallman is one of the top wedding photographers in salt lake city, utah. He not only captures the event but also has the uncanny ability to capture the emotion behind what is going on. In other words, his photos are not stale, staged images but rather seem to exude life.

Wold Creative Group worked with Michael in his branding and then on his new website that just launched. With photography like his, we really were attempting to create a frame for the photos and something that he could dynamically alter to grow the site. Like a mat for a photo, we trimmed the site with white and kept the design elements of the site as simple as possible. We designed this in such a way so the design itself would not be noticed while the photos jumped off the page…so to speak.

inn photoshoot

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Located at the mouth of Zion National Park, the Desert Pearl Inn is a modern take on the hotel experience. The details of the inn are exquisite. From the high ceilings to the wood framework of the inn coming from reclaimed railroad ties. Surrounded by rough red rock, the clean lines of the Desert Pearl Inn create a juxtaposition of old and new, rough and modern that allows you to experience Zion National Park while in ultimate comfort.

Wold Creative Group is working with them on various elements which all could benefit from solid photography. We recently completed a photoshoot at the Desert Pearl Inn. Check it out their website here (we did not design this site by the way).

library signs

Monday, February 16th, 2009

I recently went to the downtown library in salt lake city. First of all, i love libraries because they are centers of learning as well as the odd, eclectic gathering of different cultures from the intellectual on the hunt for knowledge to the homeless on the hunt for a restroom. Very interesting. Secondly, our library, in particular, has fascinating architecture and design elements. If you are in need of inspiration, i recommend going to a library to think, reflect and people watch. I was looking at their signage. Even though both of the pictures i took are of signs using helvetica, they are used in very different ways that fit their medium. Good stuff.

photos from africa

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

On my recent trip to Kenya, i had the opportunity to visit hospitals, various villages and game parks. From the nicest hotel in Nairobi to the dingiest shantytowns that were one good gust of wind away from being mere sheet metal and crudely formed boards, i saw quite a spectrum of humanity. Here are some “snaps”, as they called them.
